ER's that can be sold on the carbon market for a tidy profit.  \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eThe fact that Planktos expects to make money from this eco-engineering project should not be offensive to anyone.  It is a prime example of a company thinking big, in order to capitalize on an open exchange.  It is brave of Planktos to take on such a ambitious and daring project.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eHowever, there is much debate about whether their operation will have such a tremendous negative impact (i.e. algae bloom and bust) in the Galapagos would be detrimental to that ecosystem, and possibly have much further ranging effects as the algae and diatoms flourish, consuming more oxygen than expected and stink up the atmosphere and cloud the waters when the algae die.  \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eThe tactics that the US and Ecuadorian government are pursuing to delay Planktos' imply this is a merely ocean dumping, for which the proper permits must be obtained.  \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eCompared to the millions of tons of sewage and agricultural runoff into our oceans, with untold damages and environmental impact, would it not be reasonable to conclude that a load of 100 tons of iron dust poured into the ocean would be minor risk to the marine ecosystem and have potentially significant benefits if Planktos is right?  If the size of Planktos' \"experiment\" is too grand for a first trial, would it not be reasonable to ask Planktos for a scaled down test? Few raw materials have the potential for true sustainable production and consumption as bamboo. It is a highly versatile grass, with a tremendous growth rate and ability to survive in a both temperate and tropical environments. It's woody fibers produce products that are both strong and beautiful, such as in bamboo flooring or cutting boards, \"cane\" poles and bamboo fly fishing poles, each being prized for their strength and grace under pressure.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eNow, the latest manifestation of bamboo uses though has to be in the textile industry. Bamboo can be processed into a fine, silk like fiber or yarn, both of which produce some amazingly soft and durable clothing, bed linens, towels, and even socks and underwear. Bamboo fabric is both hypoallergenic and naturally anti-microbial, so your clothes will be more stain and odor resistant.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eEcological sustainability may be a topical buzzword, but the ethics of such sustainability can help carry the resource demand that we place on our planet. Using bamboo woods and bamboo products in our daily lives can have a major impact on the pace of deforestation of hardwood forests, in favor of faster growing bamboo forests. However, until bamboo rises in public demand, we will still have a high reliance on cotton for our fabrics, while our hardwood demands are met by oak, pine, and maple.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eConsider trying bamboo fabrics in your wardrobe or linen closet. This is the agrarian process of growing and harvesting algae for its many byproducts.  These byproducts include food, fertilizer, ethanols, and biofuels.  Algae is also a good medium for water treatment plants for water purification.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eTwo companies that I am aware of are making headway with growing algae for biofuel production is \u003ca href\u003d\"http://www.greenfuelonline.com\"\u003eGreen Fuel Technologies Company \u003c/a\u003eand \u003ca href\u003d\"http://www.petroalgae.com\"\u003ePetroalgae, LLC\u003c/a\u003e.  Both of these companies produce biofuels, each with proprietary technologies for growing and harvesting the algae. \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eGreen Fuel's system partners with fossil fuel plants and siphons the carbon dioxide from the flue for input into bioreactors containing the algae.  When the algae concentration is high enough, the biomass is harvested and the oils expressed, creating a biofuel that can help offset the outside fuel demands of multi-fuel furnaces, or the biomass may be harvested for protein extraction for other food related products.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003ePetroalgae claims to use a high oil percentage algae, which is grown in some modular system, for the express purpose of producing biofuels.  This species of algae, is believed to double at an rate of once per 24 hours, making harvesting a continuous process.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eAfter much research on this same subject, I believe I have invented a means of growing and harvesting large amounts of algae, which by itself can be processed on site into whatever desired product line should be, depending on the species of algae cultivated, without the costs of huge tracts of land, manual labor, and additional fossil fuel costs, with the added benefit of measurable carbon dioxide emissions reductions, think 'CDM' project,  and measurable oxygen production.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eI am happy to describe my invention and process to anyone interested in learning more about it, in hopes of generating a business from this idea. This document does an extroardinary job of explaining the probable causality of Global Warming.   This should be a punct\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cspan style\u003d\"font-family:courier new;font-size:85%;\"\u003e\"Global atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have increased markedly as a result of human activities since 1750 and now far exceed pre-industrial values determined from ice cores spanning many thousands of years (see Figure SPM-1). The global increases in carbon dioxide concentration are due primarily to fossil fuel use and land-use change, while those of methane and nitrous oxide are primarily due to agriculture. {2.3, 6.4, 7.3}\"\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo me, this confirmation of the global warming phenomenon stops at showing us some reason for the cause.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI would suggest that regardless of the cause, we find a solution quickly. They will now spend the next year learning and substantiating this request including studying the reasons for its concern.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eI hope this is a precident setting action by this administration to recognize the role of global warming and the risks that are inherent in the climate crisis of global warming. His reasoning and forecasting skills seem pretty good for a 10 year old.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eOne day, I hope he see's his father as doing something to help mitigate the global warming problem. I have another argument against the latter. \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eIt seems that most scientists who have studied the heating and cooling patterns of the Earth, agree that patterns are evident in the historical data.  However, the significant changes to our environment are marked by a fact that is not present in this article, and is not present in many articles that claim to debunk the myth of global warming.  The ignored fact is that during the cycles of heating and cooling identified in the distant and relatively near past (of 200 years and greater) are consistent with a stable population of humans of about 500 million.  At 1804, the global population reached one billion.  In 1927, the world population reached 2 billion.  In 1987, the world population reached five billion, and in 2005, the world population reached 6 billion people.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eOver most recent 200 years of history, there have been a number of things that have allowed the human population to boom to its current state. The use of soaps, antiseptics and other medical miracles have improved the quality of life and reduced the impact of diseases decreasing the mortality rate, and increasing the birth rate.  Advances to the way we produce and harvest animals and foods has also evolved to become more voluminous and efficient.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eNow that we have over 6 billion people on earth, each breathing and working in more industrial modes and with greater efficiencies, it seems reasonable that humans are having an impact on the environment.  The increased resource demands on animals, food, water and oxygen, are having an \"unnatural\" affect and it’s showing up in scientific data that is rejected by the global warming hoax community.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eWe have already seen examples in smaller communities, such as the Florida deer population, which have yielded smaller and fewer animals each year due to overeating of its available resources. An additional example is Algae blooms in the ocean that bust (die out) because of their ravenous demand for oxygen and nutrients that cannot be found in the water immediately surrounding their colony as they grow.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eI think the Earth may be reaching its carrying capacity very soon. This brings me to my arguments for Mr. Driessen's conclusion, that it’s unethical to not allow impoverished nations to flourish with hydroelectric or nuclear power, or modern technologies and conveniences, or insecticides that will help reduce mosquito born disease to improve their quality of life.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eTo me, the real problem exists when we have artificially grown the population to a point that the earth can no longer sustain its population.  A sustainable population is possible, considering two things:  First, the birth and mortality rate must balance each other.  Second, we must consider that life in impoverished nations may not be sustainable with local resources.  It may be necessary to either relocate the inhabitants to locales where resources exist, or discover or provide the means to sustain and improve the lives of those in impoverished nations where they are. \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003ePeople's quality of life is extremely poor when they cannot cultivate land or get the electricity to power the homes and tools of every day life. The shift in centralized production to decentralized production will require a significant market force to initiate that movement, which is not yet in place, and may not outweigh the benefits of the current global production.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eOne of the promising technologies to help reduce our demand on coal and other fossil fuels are the petrochemicals derived from sustainable crops such as soybean, corn and algae. This is a fantastic chronicle of the history of environmental ethics that all students of environmental ethics would benefit from reading. Nash’s historical perspective at the time of his writing, coupled with the importance of the topics of today, make this book as relevant today as it was 20 years ago.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eFor those who have not read this book, Nash’s central theme is the widening sense of identification that humans have developed regarding the environment and other forms of life throughout human history. It is more of a history of “Deep Ecology” as it has matured greatly philosophically from mere conservationism.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eIt seems to me today, that the trend in philosophical thinking towards Deep Ecology is still moving forward. This movement has instilled in us individual requirements to do something for not only our environment, but more selfishly, for ourselves, even though the benefit is global. I’ve read countless articles concerning the dire state of our ocean fishes being fished to extinction, global warming, and our deteriorating air quality. I’m talking about Green Policies, things like greenhouse gas reduction, carbon reduction mechanisms, efficient and renewable energy sources, and sustainable growth policies, at the governmental, trans-governmental, and economic or commercial levels that can influence a change in [slow] at least the rate of environmental breakdown.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eWith regards to the Kyoto Protocol and the \u003ca title\u003d\"http://unfccc.int/\" href\u003d\"http://unfccc.int/\"\u003eUnited Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change\u003c/a\u003e, I think we at least have a model from which to take on industrial-sized carbon emissions reduction projects. This model may require adjustment, as well as more countries to ratify it to make it more relevant and influential. Various cities and states around the world are also implementing their own methods and markets for carbon reduction projects, which in turn increases the demand for the carbon market.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eIndividuals have the ability to also practice these conservationist actions with a global impact.
